Time Apparatus, 2007, 6min

Time Apparatus depicts the clock at the old Seoul Station and its surroundings. Installed on the facade of Seoul Station, the clock has never stopped ticking since 1925, except during the Korean War, making it a symbol of history that has remained unchanged from the past to the present. The artist urges us to break free from the absolute obsession with time and transcend the fixed concepts of reality, stemming from contemplation on the changing nature of time from the past to the present.

<시간 장치>는 구)서울역사의 시계와 그 주변의 모습을 소재로 한 영상작품이다. 서울역 전면에 설치된 시계는 1925년부터 한국 전쟁 당시를 제외하고 한 번도 멈춘 적이 없기 때문에 과거부터 현재까지 변함없이 존재해 온 역사의 상징물이라 할 수 있다. 작가는 과거와 판이해진 시간성에 대해 사유하고, 현대를 사는 우리가 절대적인 시간의 강박에서 벗어나 관념으로서 고정된 실체에서 자유로워지기를 권한다.
