Mary Lucier captures 19th-century art history and literary sensibilities through the lens of technology. In this single-channel video, she overlays the text of Allen Grossman's poem 'the conversation' onto a landscape bathed in light. The meditation on loss coexists with the brightness of the summer scenery, creating an experience of understanding and empathy within the interplay of darkness in the text, linguistic expression, and the image.
