Sinema Elektronik refers to Indonesian dramas, known as Sinetron. They rose to popularity in the 1990s alongside the growth of private broadcasters. Today, Indonesia has about ten private broadcasters airing programs round-the-clock. Sinetron occupies prime-time slots every evening, becoming ingrained in Indonesian daily life. These dramas often feature exaggerated plots, fantasies of wealth, idealized characters, and sometimes stereotypical portrayals of race, akin to South Korean melodramas. Despite the melodramatic content, people's enthusiasm for Sinetron likely stems from seeking temporary relief from feelings of isolation and powerlessness in their lives.

<시네마 전자>은 인도네시아의 드라마를 일컫는 단어로, 일명 씨네트론이라 불린다. 씨네트론은 민영 방송사가 성장·발전했던 1990년대부터 대중적인 인기를 얻기 시작했다. 현재 인도네시아에 10여 개에 달하는 민영 방송사들이 있는데, 이들은 24시간 동안 쉬지 않고 프로그램을 방영한다. 씨네트론은 그중 매일 저녁 황금 시간대에 편성되어 인도네시아인들 삶의 일부가 되었다. 씨네트론의 에피소드들은 보통 비약이 심하고, 부에 대한 환상, 선남선녀와 추남추녀, 심지어 인종에 대한 정형화된 묘사들로 가득해 우리나라의 막장 드라마와 유사하다. 허황된 내용임에도 사람들이 드라마에 열광하는 이유는 현실 사회 속에서 느끼는 고립감, 무력감에서 잠시나마 벗어나기 위함일 것이다.
