Synopsis
La Punta was created in 2013 to commemorate the 70th Venice International Film Festival as part of the Future Reloaded project, in which filmmakers were invited to reflect on the future of cinema. In this short work, Apichatpong Weerasethakul combines images of rainfall filmed in Thailand with the sound of waves recorded on a beach in Lima, Peru. The result is a poetic meditation on the power of nature and the interconnectedness of distant places. Through the meeting of rain and ocean, the film invites viewers to reflect on their relationship with the rhythms and movements of the natural world. Separated by continents, these landscapes are joined through the elemental circulation of water, suggesting how seemingly distant geographies remain linked by the shared forces that shape the planet .
