Holy Mountain-1, 2014
Holy Mountain-1 opens with a typical scene near the Han River. However, as cement dust falls from the sky and accumulates among the landscapes, several cement mountains form, gradually obscuring the original scenery. This imagery evokes the gradual disappearance of natural landscapes amidst relentless construction. The work metaphorically reveals the hidden side of Seoul, a city that, while glamorous on the surface, has been shaped by indiscriminate development over the past 50 years.
<신성한 산-1>은 한강 근처의 전형적인 풍경을 보여주면서 시작된다. 하지만 하늘에서부터 떨어지는 시멘트 가루가 풍경들 사이로 점차 쌓여가면서 여러 개의 시멘트 산이 형성되는데, 결국 그로 인해 배경이었던 풍경이 점차 가려지게 된다. 이는 흔히 볼 수 있던 자연의 풍경들이 수없이 지어지는 건축물들로 인해 점차 사라져가는 것을 생각하게 한다. 작품은 겉으로는 화려하지만 지난 50년간 이루어진 무분별한 개발이 만들어낸 서울이라는 도시의 뒷모습을 비유적으로 보여준다.
