Spirits Closing Their Eyes is a film installation on life in Japan after March 11, 2011. This work does not focus on the direct damages caused by earthquakes and tsunamis or the subsequent rebuilding and relief efforts. Instead, it highlights the changing present state of physical and psychological emergency between the actual threat of disasters and subtle changes in everyday habits. How do people remember March 11th 2011? What changed in their personal lives? What is the disaster’s impact on each individual and on society as a whole? Is there an immediate danger? Or is there just a diffuse feeling of uncertainty? How do people in Japan see their future?
