The Moonwalk Machine - Selena's Step protagonist is a quirky girl named Selena. Immersed in Japanese manga and amateur astronomy, Selena dreams of becoming a superheroine, "Lunar Girl," and develops the Moonwalk Machine-Rover. Unlike conventional rovers used for lunar exploration, Selena's rover has a pair of high heels attached to its back, leaving footprints as it moves up and down. Inspired by the Apollo project during President John F. Kennedy's era, this work aims to address the lack of representation of women, especially Asian women, in space exploration history. It seeks to leave the footprint of women, symbolized by high heels, alongside the footsteps of the twelve "white male" astronauts who left their mark on the moon, challenged by Sputniko.
<문워크 기계 - 셀레나의 스텝>의 주인공은 ‘셀레나’라는 괴짜 소녀다. 일본 망가와 우주 탐사에 경도된 아마추어 과학도 셀레나는 수퍼 영웅 ‘루나 걸’이 되기를 꿈꾸며 문워크 기계-Rover를 개발한다. 일반적인 로버가 달 표면에서 돌을 수집하거나 주변 환경을 탐색하는 데 쓰인다면, 셀레나가 개발한 로버는 뒷부분에 하이힐 한 켤레가 붙어있어 아래위로 움직이며 발자국을 찍는다. 이 작품은 존 F. 케네디 대통령 시절의 아폴로 프로젝트인 1960, 70년대 미국의 유인 우주 비행 탐사 계획에서 아이디어를 얻은 것인데, 스푸트니코가 문제 삼는 것은 이 프로젝트에서 달에 발자국을 남긴 인간은 12명의 ‘백인 남성’들이었다는 점이다. 작품은 이 역사에 여성, 특히 동양 여성의 발자취를, 그것도 하이힐 자국으로 남겨보고자 한다.
