The documentary <It's She-Thing> sheds light on the artistic world of contemporary feminist artists who are among the most provocative and avant-garde figures in the art, film production, and rock scenes, focusing on gender, sex, and the body in their works. The film features interviews with prominent figures such as the performance artist Orlan, installation artist Sarah Lucas, installation artist and filmmaker Tracey Emin, avant-garde artist Yoko Ono, video artists Pipilotti Rist and Sadie Benning, as well as interviews with the core members of the American "girl power" phenomenon, the rock group Bikini Kill, showcasing their works. While their expression mediums and methods may vary, they all challenge the notions of sexuality and the female body as sources of inspiration and central artistic themes in their work.
젠더와 섹스, 육체에 관련된 작품을 발표해 오고 있는 급진적 예술가들에 대한 다큐멘터리 <그녀들만의 것(It's She-Thing)>은 미술계와 영화 제작, 그리고 록 신에서 활동 중인 동시대의 가장 도발적이고 전위적인 페미니스트 아티스트들의 작품세계를 조명한 다큐멘터리이다. 영화는 성형술 아티스트 오를랑, 설치미술가 사라 루카스, 설치미술가이자 필름메이커인 트레이시 예민, 전위예술가 오노 요코, 비디오 아티스트인 피필로티 리스트와 사디 베닝, 그리고 미국의 '걸파워 현상'의 핵심적 인물인 록그룹 비키니 킬의 인터뷰와 그들의 작품들을 교직시키고 있다. 표현 매체와 방식에 있어서는 차이가 있지만 이들은 모두 섹슈얼리티와 여성의 육체를 그들 작업 영감의 원천이자 주요한 예술적 주제로 문제화하고 있다.
