The Lost One, 2013, 4min 50sec

The Lost One is a collaboration between media artist Bagus Pandega, who is also an electronic musician, and instrument engineer Hendra Budiman. The video features golden cat dolls known as "Maneki-neko" as the main characters. These decorations, commonly seen in Japanese restaurants or shop counters, are believed by the Japanese to bring in customers or wealth when their left front paw moves back and forth. However, the Maneki-neko in the video all lack the moving paw of luck. The artist satirically portrays our situation where we pursue materialism as the ultimate value but overlook something essential.

<마지막 물건>은 미디어 아티스트 바구스 판데가가 전자악기 음악가이자 악기 엔지니어인 헨드라 부디만과 함께 작업한 것이다. 영상에는 금색 고양이 인형들이 주인공으로 등장한다. 이 ‘마네키네코’라는 장식물은 일본의 식당이나 상점 카운터에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 것으로, 일본 사람들은 이 장식이 왼쪽 앞발을 까딱까딱 앞뒤로 움직이면 손님이나 재물이 들어올 거라 믿는다. 하지만 영상 속의 마네키네코들은 모두 움직이는 행운의 앞발이 없다. 작가는 물질을 최고의 가치로 추구하지만 다른 한편 중요한 무언가를 잃고 있는 우리의 상황을 풍자적으로 보여주고자 하였다.
