Jiji Kim explores the complex interplay between reality and fantasy through the character 'Ha-Nyeo,' representing deep-seated human desires and fears. This artwork examines how dreams and unconscious imagery can materialize using a unique approach. Kim meticulously creates a paper set, assembling dream-inspired images into a tangible world. By intentionally degrading image clarity with diffusers and lighting techniques and capturing it with a smartphone camera, she enhances the ambiguity of analog media while maintaining digital precision. Mermaid’s Night invites viewers to reflect on the boundaries of perception, the depths of the subconscious mind, and the delicate relationship between reality and illusion.
본 영상 작품은 현실과 환상이 교차하는 지점에 위치시킨 ‘하녀’라는 캐릭터를 통해 인간 내면에 자리한 욕망과 공포를 표현한다. 꿈에서 영감을 받은 이미지를 모아 종이 세트장을 조립하며 구체적인 세계를 형상화한다. 이는 꿈과 무의식에서 착안한 이미지를 물질화하는 시도이다. 또한, 디퓨저와 특정 조명 기술으로 이미지의 선명도를 의도적으로 감소시키고, 스마트폰 카메라로 촬영하여 아날로그 매체의 흐릿함을 디지털의 정밀함 속에 구현한다. 인식의 경계, 무의식의 심연, 현실과 환상의 미묘한 상호작용을 제시한다.
