Apologies 1–6 finds a performer riding a motorbike on the Australian open road. The rider suddenly comes to a stop alongside ‘roadkill’ – kangaroos killed by collision – which they gently cradle and whisper to, as if to utter an apology or utter a burial prayer. In this film, the animals represent the physical front-line in the confrontation between humankind and the natural world.
<Apologies 1-6>에서는 호주의 광활한 도로를 오토바이를 타고 내달리는 퍼포머로 등장하는 작가 자신의 모습을 포착한다. 도로 위 충돌인 ‘로드킬’을 당한 캥거루와 왈라비 등의 동물들을 마주하고 멈춰 서는 작가는 죽은 동물들을 조심스럽게 어루만지며 마치 속삭이듯 사과와 위로의 말을 건네며 애도를 표한다. 본 영상 작품에서 인간 문명과 자연의 대립에서 동물은 물리적 최전선을 상징한다.
