This project is inspired by the artist's experience of dowsing and Pieter Bruegel the Elder's painting The Parable of the Blind Leading the Blind (1568). Bruegel's work, often seen as a social and political allegory, depicts blind men unknowingly following each other toward a fall. Park uses this metaphor to illustrate the blind pursuit of power. The video shows a person dowsing in the countryside, transitioning to city scenes, symbolizing society's indiscriminate desire for status, illusion, and power. Through this imagery, Park reflects on the social reality of people blindly seeking the invisible.
<점치는 막대기>는 넓은 대지에서 수맥탐사를 해 본 작가의 경험과 르네상스 시대 풍속화가 피터 브뤼겔의 작품 <맹인들의 우화>(1568)에서 착안되었다. 사회적, 정치적 은유를 주제로 한 그림들로 잘 알려진 피터 브뤼겔의 작품에서는 당장 앞에 발생할 추락 사고도 모른 채 앞 선 사람이 이끄는 대로 걸어가는 모습을 담고 있다. 나뭇가지를 들고 천천히 걷는 장면과 시골에서 도시로 변화하는 풍경 영상은 명예(지위), 환상, 권력을 무분별하게 갈망하는 사회를 상징한다. 이처럼 보이지 않는 수맥, 즉 보이지 않는 실체를 맹목적으로 쫓아가는 사회 현실을 은유적으로 담고 있다.
