Compound Eyes of Tropical (Animal Story series) explores the interplay between Taiwanese local culture and global influences. Inspired by Taiwan’s ‘Yi zhen’ folk dance and Southeast Asian folktale The Mousedeer Crosses the River, the animation features a half-mousedeer, half-fox shaman puppet dancer. It weaves similar narratives from various cultures, reflecting on cultural mobility, identity, and universal-local connections. The story, seen through a fly’s compound eyes, traverses interlinked global and local narratives, illustrating how cultural meanings transform across regions.
<열대의 겹눈>는 대만의 로컬 문화와 글로벌 영향 사이의 상호 작용을 탐구한다. 본 애니메이션은 ‘이젠’이라는 대만 민속 무용과 동남아시아 설화 ‘강을 건너는 쥐새끼’에서 영감을 받았으며, 반은 쥐, 반은 여우인 주술사 인형 무용수가 등장한다. 다양한 문화권에 존재하는 유사한 이야기들을 엮어, 문화적 이동성, 정체성, 보편성-지역적 연관성에 대한 성찰을 이끌어낸다. 파리의 겹눈을 통해 펼쳐지는 이 이야기는 전 세계와 지역 내러티브를 넘나들며 문화적 의미가 지역에 따라 변화하는 방식을 나타낸다.
